Chapter History

Our "family tree" started when the Glendale Alumnae Chapter  was chartered on August 7, 1947, the third alumnae chapter established in Southern California.  Our founders were also involved in the creation of the Glendale Area Alumnae Panhellenic,  the Southern California Alumnae Council of Delta Delta Delta, and the philanthropy to support a new hematology department at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (which became informally known as Sleighbell.  At national convention in 1972, the Sleighbell structure and commitment to helping children with cancer was the foundation to propose and adopt Children's Cancer Charities as Tri Deltas national philanthropy..  There was a daytime group and a young alumnae group and they were very active in Tri Delta nationally and locally.    As the chapter grew,  some members who resided in the La Canada area decided to establish a new alumnae chapter, and the La Canada Alumnae Chapter was chartered on February 3, 1967.    The two alumnae chapters rotated volunteer duties to support the area alumnae Panhellenic and the Southern California Alumnae Council, and both groups had volunteers on the Sleighbell committee.  In 2005, the two chapters joined forces to grow their memberships by engaging younger members.  As an incentive for younger members to become involved,  both chapters committed to provide alumnae support to Theta Xi collegiate chapter at USC, which had lost support when the Pasadena chapter went inactive.  After one year, Janice Paul (Glendale AC President), Lee Johnson (La Canada AC President) and Debi Hayos, a Theta Xi alumni and head of the new "young alumnae group", agreed that we needed to go forward as one organization.  Those three remarkable women spear-headed the creation of the chapter we are today, and the charter for the new San Gabriel-Crescenta Valley Alumnae Chapter was awarded on March 10, 2006.  When the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter (established in September 1929) went inactive, we reached out to their members, and welcomed another group of wonderful volunteers into our fold.  We are active volunteers at several collegiate chapters,  Southern California Alumnae Council, and Glendale Area Alumnae Panhellenic, all while supporting our communities in other volunteer positions.  We steadfastly love one another!
